Sometimes Madonna offends me, but I have to give her credit for doing what she wants to do. It’s not always original or “artistic” but it’s bold. I don’t like this photo. I didn’t like Antonio Bandera’s crotch shot in Vanity Fair either. Is she setting women back or making a statement about the double standard for women. Or is she just a marketing machine? All of the above.

  2. Connie Says:

I suppose I’d respect her more if she translated all that show into feminist activism, or if she didn’t also play the proper english rose, perfect little “mummy”, put-on british accent thing she’s been doing. That being said, I do admire how she shakes her money-maker. Yikes! I just pictured myself in that get-up…I need to pour salt in my eyes now. Bye….

  3. A 'Biagi' Says:

um… having grown up in the ‘madonna’ era, i have to say that i have always thought she rocks b/c she pushes peoples boundaries and makes us wonder why we are uncomfortable with certain issues. granted, she is not the most feminist of artists, but i like the fact that she is sassy and does mostly what she wants. and holy sh*%, i want to look that good when i’m nearing 50 – i guess i have a lot of work to do (and a lot of money to raise for personal trainers, yoga instructors, and professional photographers with great touch-up software)…

  4. Wendy Says:

This picture is a bit frightening. It makes me think of a spider in a web. That being said, you have to give her credit for still being able to shock. It’s not really sexy, though, is it?

  5. Cathy Says:

I agree with everyone’s comments, and especially Wendy. Not sexy at all. Kinky? Perhaps. A little S&M for ya.

  6. Heidi Says:

It’s candy people. Lots of fun, but very little substance. It is what it is. Eat it and forget about it. Your thinking about it too much! Just enjoy!!

  7. Lori Oliver-Tierney Says:

She looks great I’ll give her credit for that. The thing I don’t like about Madonna is the hypocritcal way she is with her daughter trying to shield her from everything. I am wonderin’ how her daughter will feel when she grows up. I would like to think with personal trainers money etc. I would look like that but I’m really sure I wouldn’t so I’m with Connie and think I’ll go pour salt in my eyes or eat another bowl of ice cream and have a glass of wine. Life is good past fifty but not many of us can sum up the courage to be Hard Candy like Madonna, think I’ll just go for the soft stuff and call myself “Soft taffy.”

  8. christie Says:

Candy? Yes. it is. Non-nutritional. For me, well, I am just so bored with shots of her crotch…

  9. zach Says:

madonna. If Madonna shocks or agitates you. you must be bored or boring. My personal opinion is life would be a wee bit dull without her. There’s far worse things out there to shocked and awe’d with. ex- girlfriends for one. not you Cathy. maybe you, but in a good way. z

I appreciate her freedom of expression and the license it gives us all to show our strength but she has forgotten to let her receptive, intuitive, flowing goddess energy radiate through her. There’s no open-hearted love at the foundation of her pose, no need for connection. Her photos seem to challenge the viewer to, “mess with me, I dare you.” We’ve got enough of that in our culture. Let’s see strong, sexy, even dominant women showing their strength, bursting with love in their eyes, and challenging the viewer to, “love with me, I dare you!”
