Dog, Cat, Rat, Part II

December 18, 2008, by Cathy Fischer

Back in June, I posted a photo I had taken on State Street in Santa Barbara. I had to document it: a dog, cat and rat, piled atop one another, sleeping in peaceful harmony? Who would believe it, I thought.

This video shows how people react to this wonderful anomaly, and the motivation behind the man and his “yes we can!” animals. World peace has to start somewhere, maybe State Street is the place.

I love the cat licking the rat! If you’ve ever been licked by a cat tongue, you know that the rat must be in heaven. It’s a spa treatment for rodents.

Thanks for reprising this piece and for the video. What a welcome respite from the difficulties we are facing and takes us back to basics. Getting along, being kind, giving comfort.

I used to live in Santa Barbara and so enjoyed this video! On a beautiful day in this lovely seaside town, you can really grasp what Jesus meant when he said, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Yes, it is, right there in Santa Barbara. No need to tithe, fast, make sacrifices or go any further. As proof, the cat, rat and dog–where else would this happen but in heaven on earth?

This couldn’t be sweeter. Can’t we all just get along…?

I love in SB and still can’t get over the dog, cat, rat. I also enjoy watching the reactions of passers-by. The foursome (man included) have mellow personalities and take fame in stride.
